Opinion | Federal Missteps on Covid-19 Data and Testing


To the Editor:Re “Trump Administration to Collect Hospitals’ Virus Data From Now On” (news article, July 15):Some 138,000 are dead in the United States. And yet, incredibly, the White House is more concerned with curtailing public information than containing the Covid-19 pandemic. Since the beginning of this crisis, the administration has cast doubt on warnings and guidelines from its experts, sowing public confusion and further hindering our response. Now, it’s directing hospitals to divert Covid-19 data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and instead send it directly to Washington. It is a decision that will result in opaqueness at best — and political manipulation at worst.
